As part of a new partnership between UNC-TV Public Media North Carolina, the North Carolina Department of Information Technology and the Wireless Research Center of North Carolina for a public safety research center, new products and services will be developed from ATSC 3.0/Next Gen TV applications for first responders and public safety response.
Over the past five years, (the WRC’s) IoT-focused organization, RIoT, has convened 85 corporate, university and municipal government partners regularly in the IoT conversation. Representatives from more than 1,200 companies have attended RIoT events and shared how emerging technologies are impacting their businesses.
“We’re closer to commercialization than we are to fundamental research,” (Founder and CEO Gerry Hayes) explained. “We will actually bridge that gap of what companies need to have done, and what is viable to go into a product.”
The Foundation for Research on Information Technologies in Society (IT’IS) in Zurich, Switzerland in partnership with WRC are now testing and validating a POPEYE (human model) in WRC’s anechoic chamber. “We believe the relationship with the WRC allows us to be proactive in understanding the challenge of testing these devices, and more importantly, better understanding the performance of these devices across multiple market segments.”
